Whispered: Love That Keeps You awake is a new novel from Christina Crooks. In my opinion, this new novel will be a best seller. Ms. Crooks has crafted a very intriguing plot with lots of romance and suspense. I can’t wait to read this one.

Fifteen-year old Jennifer had moved to Arizona with her family five years earlier. Although her mother told her there was no need to leave, Jennifer had a different idea. She knew she wanted to experience life just as she had in the old home, and she knew that Arizona meant the possibility of love and romance. So when her parents announced that they were moving, Jennifer packed her bags and followed her mother to Arizona.

What Jennifer did not know was that her new “Husband” was a con artist named Steve who had been taken away from his wife and children after a briefcase burglary. Now, Steve and Jennifer are on opposite sides of the country — and although their paths have crossed many times since their separation, both are unsure how far their relationship can go. It seems that each wants the other for more than the other can give — and that these feelings are tearing them apart. When a chance arises for Jennifer to meet her own lover, however, she can’t help herself but rush to the event with hope in her heart.

Once at the event, however, Jennifer must make a decision — to fall in love or to move on. The decision proves more difficult when she meets another woman at the event who also has fallen in love. Will these two be able to overcome their common enemy and become soulmates? Is there an answer to the question of how one can have two hearts full of love? How do you let love change you? And most importantly, what happens to those of us left behind when we fall in love?

What I like about this book is that there is no romance involved. The characters are not kissing and touching, no pleasurableries exchanged, no tenderness shown. They simply do not speak of love. They do not even try to persuade the reader that they feel anything for each other — nor even attempt to convince the reader that their feelings are real. But they are lovers, they are not one-night stands… but these are real, heartfelt people, trying to live normal lives with each other, with their friends, with their family, without being held back by the constraints of marriage.

What I found interesting, too, was that unlike so many books, this one did not seem contrived. There were no dangling words here or there that I needed to stop and re-read. The characters’ speeches and actions were so real that you wanted to know what they were thinking, what they had been planning. The book kept me reading with interest, and until the very end, I felt as though I had gotten every last detail of the story. This is a definite must-read book; if you have ever been in a similar situation, you will enjoy this story all the more.
